Therapy Through Horses Centre

This project was the vision of two young people who as Christians have an interest in young people and horses and were keen to put the two together. This project helps young people develop skills such as work, discipline, responsibility, team spirit, relating to one another, and community, and it also works well at engaging with girls. We have found that being with horses is therapeutic and can be done in small groups allowing us to deepen the relationship with the young people involved in the project.

Why therapy through horses?

  • Young people often come out of their shells around animals;
  • Young people get very enthusiastic about horses and actually want to learn more;
  • Stables are often a natural gathering/meeting place for young people, especially girls

RidingThe young people are regularly attending the stables and the project is going very well. We have use of a riding school just up the road from the stables, and this has been very useful during the bad weather but is also safer than the roads around the stables and makes the beginners feel more secure.

We are keen to get rid of our manure in exchange for donations!

Last year Naomi Milligan was nominated for a Change It award for her work at the stables. The story of the stables is profiled on the Vinspired website. Click here for more details.
