Wokingham Green Care Farm

Wokingham Green Care Farm Initiative is working to create a local 'care farm'. We will be part of a growing network of care farms across the UK. What all care farms have in common is an atmosphere where people feel safe, respected and engaged in meaningful activity.

Care Farms combine care of the land, animals and people. We will be working with young people who may have been excluded from mainstream education and employment, and their families. Care Farm provides a safe place where people can access coaching, counselling, training and work opportunities. There will be opportunities for the local community to take part by volunteering and supporting people with mental health or learning disabilities. You can find more information about Care Farms in the UK at www.ncfi.org.uk. If you would like to see a video of young people experiencing a Care Farm near Leeds, then click this link www.guardian.co.uk/society/2008/mar/12/care.farms to see what it is that we are trying to create in the Wokingham area.

We also operate 'The Gardening Scheme' offering structured work in a supervised environment for adults with stress and common mental health challenges, working with volunteers to maintain older people's gardens and grow vegetable produce and flowers for sale.
