The Borough of Wokingham is a large and varied area containing a mix of suburban and rural communities with a population of 163,000. Often recognised as one of the most healthy areas of the country to live, house prices are relatively high and crime figures relatively low.

The borough was judged to have the highest quality of life in the UK in a 2007 study which found that householders were the healthiest in the nation, with 95% in good or fairly good health, and life expectancy for newborn children being near the top of the tables, at 80 years. Residents earned an average of £744 a week, putting them in the top 5% in the country, and 84% were owner-occupiers. The area's crime rate, weather and carbon emissions were also taken into account by the researchers, who judged Wokingham to offer the best quality of life in the country - up from third place in the rankings last year.
